VGH releases COVID-19 Hospital Guidelines

In response to Governor Reynold’s announcement of community spread in Iowa of the COVID-19 virus, Virginia Gay Hospital is updating the public with the following information regarding Virginia Gay Hospital and clinics as we work to minimize patient and staff exposure and conserve resources.The following precautions will take effect until further notice.

Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab restricts Visiting

To Our Residents and Family Members:We know many of you are concerned about the spread of COVID-19 (the new coronavirus) and how it may impact us here at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab. Ensuring residents are cared for in a safe and healthy environment is our first priority. At this time, we don’t have any cases in our building. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have recommended a variety of steps that we are implementing to help reduce the potential for the virus to enter our building.

Blood Donations needed today at VGH

Donate today at Virginia Gay Hospital and Vinton Community Blood Drive, Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 1:45 PM - 5:30 PM at Virginia Gay Hospital, 502 N 9th Ave. LifeServe Blood Center, along with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other national partners, is urging blood donors to turn out in force to give blood. Across the blood industry, nearly 4,000 blood drives have been canceled, resulting in some 130,000 fewer blood donations due to concerns regarding COVID-19.

BLOOD SUPPLY A CONCERN IN WAKE OF COVID-19 FEARS: Donate March 17

 VGH will be hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, March 17th from 1:45-5:30PM in the VGH Cafeteria. LifeServe Blood Center, the sole supplier of blood products to more than 120 hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota, is urging healthy, eligible blood donors to continue donating blood to maintain an adequate blood supply in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Additional COVID-19 Case in Iowa: 2-1-1 hotline available to answer questions

Testing at Iowa’s State Hygienic Laboratory has indicated one additional positive case of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Iowa residents, a total of 14 positive cases. An additional 21 tests were negative. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), the new case is in an older adult (61 to 80 years) from Johnson County and was on the same Egyptian cruise as other positive cases.

Virginia Gay Hospital announces visitor restrictions until further notice

In keeping with a commitment to patient safety, effective today, Virginia Gay Hospital will temporarily limit patient visitations in order to minimize potential patient and staff exposure to seasonal influenza and other respiratory viruses.Starting today, the following precautions will take effect until further notice.· Visitors are limited to two adults per patient room at any time unless there is a special circumstance.

Governor orders partial activation of the State Emergency Operations Center

Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered a partial activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Johnston to ensure State of Iowa agencies are prepared in the event COVID-19 is detected in the state. “While no positive tests of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Iowa at this time, we are proactively coordinating plans across state agencies to protect the health of Iowans and assess our operational needs so we are as prepared as possible," said Gov.
